Position Summary


Under the direct and indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse, administers patient care within a hospital or inpatient/observation
setting, where acute care patients receive active treatment for injuries, illnesses, medical conditions, or post intervention with
assessment. This is a temporary position lasting 8 weeks.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions
• Administers bedside patient care in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting under the supervision of an assigned Preceptor in a
Registered Nurse role.
• Collaborates with the assigned Registered Nurse, assesses patient's needs, and develops/revises an individualized plan of care based
on patient’s needs and responses. Evaluatesthe patient's progress toward attaining expected outcomes.
• Respects diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and customers.
• Communicates any patient and family advocacy issues with the assigned Registered Nurse.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for patients served in their assigned unit/department.
• Communicates and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team under the guidance of the assigned Registered Nurse.
• Makes decisions and demonstrates behaviors associated with the 4 C's: Connection, Curiosity, Communication and Commitment.
• Continuesto expand knowledge during externship related to the principles of growth and development over the life span, assesses
data reflective of the patient's status, and interprets the necessary information to identify each patient's requirements relative to
their age- specific needs.
• Learnsto delegate as appropriate to other team members for a defined group of patients.
• With the co-signature of a Registered Nurse, documents patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner meeting all
required and regulatory standards. This includes but is not limited to patient assessment, education, medication administration,
treatments, and ensuring patient safety.
• Demonstrates expanded competency during externship in nursing skills and use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by
unit/department-specific requisite skills.
• Prioritizes patient care continuously in accordance with Evidence-Based Practice Standards of care.
• Practices effective problem identification and resolution skills.
• Routinely communicates appropriate information regarding patient condition to the assigned Registered Nurse.
• Demonstrates caring practices by providing a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and their families.
• Enhances knowledge/awareness of legal issues and patients' rights.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal,state,
and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
Other Related Functions
• Followsthe schedule of the assigned preceptor.
• Attends assigned summer extern team meetings

Qualifications

Education/Training
• Completed junior year of nursing school or equivalent by the start of the program.
• Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and the specific
unit/department.
Licensure/Certification
Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.
