Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital is a 595-bed comprehensive healthcare facility known for providing a wide range of medical services and specialized care to the Homewood community and beyond. Accredited by The Joint Commission, Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital is recognized for excellence in stroke care, cardiovascular services, rehabilitation, bariatrics, surgical care including minimally invasive procedures and is one of the largest providers of psychiatry care in the state. We have earned Primary Stroke Center certification from The Joint Commission and Get with the Guidelines® Gold Plus Achievement in Stroke from the American Heart Association. Our bariatric program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) as a Comprehensive Center. The campus also includes the Women’s Medical Center, providing full-service care for women at all stages of life, including gynecologic surgery, maternity, and a labor and delivery unit with a Level III NICU. The center holds Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care from The Joint Commission.
At Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital Surgical Tech demonstrates a clear understanding of sterile techniques and maintains a working knowledge of the specialized instrumentation and equipment required for a variety of special procedures.
Essential Functions
• Reviews preferences and verifies the case cart thoroughly before the procedure.
• Maintains an orderly surgical field and consistently passesinstruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon.
• Anticipates and prioritizesthe needs ofthe varioussteps associated with the procedure.
• Takes part in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as dictated by the procedure.
• Maintainssurgicalspecimens in a manner that identifies and preserves them for pathology evaluation.
• Assists in ordering and stocking specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and in accordance with
departmental guidelines.
• Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs)
throughout the facility.
• May have limited accessto areas where medications are stored.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state
and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures
Education/Training
High school graduate or equivalent.
Successful completion of:
• Surgical Technology training program; or
• Orlando Health Training Program; or
• An accredited physician assistant program
Licensure/Certification
Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
