Position Summary

 

Performs moderately complex general laboratory testing in the area(s) of licensure under the direction of a Medical Technologist. MLT clinical lab technician CLT medical lab technician medical laboratory technician

Responsibilities

  • Performs and reports routine laboratory testing following established policies and procedures to ensure the highest quality of laboratory results within established timeframes.
  • Verifies results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability.
  • Performs, evaluates, and documents all quality control, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Demonstrates computer system proficiency including ordering, resulting, and inquiry functions.
  • Ensures proper utilization and preparation of reagents and supplies.
    Communicates critical results to the patient caregiver.
  • Regularly reports all unusual findings to the immediate supervisor.
  • Regularly reports work activities and pending work to the oncoming technologist.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Assumes one or more of the following responsibilities under the supervision of the Medical Technologist or Team Leader: supply/reagent ordering or preparation, primary operator of minor instrumentation, projects, or teaching/training.
  • Performs specimen collection procedures, specimen receiving and processing as required.
  • Answers the telephone and greets guests to the department.
  • Maintains current job knowledge in order to effectively instruct students or other personnel.
  • Responsible for an active role in the laboratory quality improvement program including performance and evaluation of key quality indicators.
  • Follows the established policies and procedures to meet regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
  • Practices infection control and safety practices and keeps a clean and organized work area.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient record, hospital and departmental matters at all times.
  • Perform other duties as directed under supervision of Medical Technologist or Team Leader. 

Qualifications

Education/Training
 
Associate's degree from approved school of Medical Laboratory Technician required. Other degrees may be considered if correct course load was completed.
 
Licensure/Certification
 
Must be eligible for registry with American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Association of Bio-analysts (AAB), or American Medical Technologists (AMT) and must obtain certification within six months of hire.
