The Lead Registered Dietitian supports the Clinical Nutrition Manager and serves as an expert resource for the Clinical Nutrition Team.
They demonstrate skills and competencies related to evidence-based medical nutrition therapy and are highly proficient inpatient or
outpatient clinicians. They oversee quality and/or process improvement projects and complete department-related leadership tasks as
assigned.
Essential Functions
• Assists Clinical Nutrition Manager with assigned tasks, including, but not limited to: precepting dietetic interns, serving as a
department resource for Joint Commission readiness, assisting with interviews, and coordinating training for new team
members.
• Leads Quality and/or Process Improvement projects through committee/council involvement.
• Assigns/organizes schedules to provide adequate and consistent staffing coverage for all patient units.
• Updates department Standards of Care annually or as needed by delegating tasks needed to complete this assignment.
• Participates as a member of the Clinical Nutrition Council.
• Demonstrates evidenced-based knowledge of medical nutrition therapy for appropriate nutrition-related care of patients.
• Demonstrates the necessary competency level to assess patient’s nutritional requirements and specific needs over the lifespan.
• Serves as the consultant on nutrition care.
• Writes orders per policy.
• Counsels patients and/or caregivers on nutritional principles, dietary plans, and food selections, considering cultural, religious, and
ethnic requests/preferences.
• Develops, implements, and documents nutritional care plans based on assessment of patient nutritional needs considering both
nutrition status and disease state requirements.
• Communicates appropriate dietary history and nutritional care data through the medical record documentation system. Participates
in physician and health care team interdisciplinary rounds, as applicable.
• The Lead Registered Dietitian is expected to adhere to Orlando Health policies, procedures, guidelines, mission and vision
statements, and commitment to excellence.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state,
and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
• May oversee direct reports as identified by Clinical Nutrition Manager.
• Patient Care may account for approximately 50% of job duties or as determined by the Clinical Nutrition Manager.
• Represents Orlando Health through outside speaking engagements to the community and/or media events as assigned.
• Represents Clinical Nutrition Department as a participant on task force or committee as assigned.
Education/Training
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university or college and coursework accredited or approved by the Accreditation
Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Licensure/Certification
• Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
• Must maintain licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist with the State of Florida

Four (4) years clinical experience as a Registered Dietitian
