Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital is seeking a strategic, results-driven Chief Operations Officer to join our executive leadership team. This dynamic leader will oversee the hospital’s support and general services, ensuring operational excellence across all areas of responsibility.
The COO will be accountable for achieving key performance goals related to quality, customer service, financial stewardship, and strategic growth. This role plays a critical part in shaping the hospital’s future by identifying opportunities for innovation, expanding service lines, and enhancing market competitiveness.

 

About Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital


Serving the Homewood community, Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital is a 595-bed acute-care hospital located in Birmingham, Alabama. The facility offers a full complement of services, including emergency care, cardiovascular care, bariatrics, orthopedics and rehabilitation, and surgical services. It also is one of the largest providers of psychiatric care in the state. The hospital has earned Primary Stroke Center certification from The Joint Commission, and its bariatric program has been accredited as a Comprehensive Center by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). The Women’s Medical Center provides comprehensive women’s services through all stages of life, including gynecologic surgery, maternity care, and labor and delivery services. Additionally, the Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) holds Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care from The Joint Commission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with hospital leadership and medical staff to reduce costs, enhance revenues, and achieve integration and quality goals.
  • Analyze operational data to support informed decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Develop and foster collaboration between departments, medical staff, and affiliated partners to ensure integrated service delivery.
  • Provide oversight for the development of high-quality, cost-effective, and integrated clinical programs.
  • Seek and incorporate physician input regarding hospital operations; respond to physician concerns and recommendations.
  • Support medical staff growth and development plans, including physician recruitment strategies.
  • Promote positive and effective physician relations through regular engagement and communication.
  • Prepare financial projections for new initiatives, capital expenditures, and operational changes.
  • Develop and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive financial and operational improvements.
  • Analyze budget variances and lead managers in creating corrective action plans.
  • Educate physicians and staff on hospital financial dynamics to support operational goals.
  • Lead the development and management of the hospital’s five-year strategic plan in coordination with Corporate Finance.
  • Provide financial education and leadership to hospital team members.
  • Coach, develop, and manage direct reports to ensure high performance and accountability.
  • Oversee support services personnel, including hiring, evaluations, assignments, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and regulatory standards across all operational areas.
  • Determine resource requirements, prepare budgets, and forecast capital and equipment needs.
  • Maintain effective collaboration between hospital and Orlando Health corporate operations.
  • Participate in administrative call coverage as needed.
  • Serve on medical and planning committees, contributing to strategic and business goals.
  • Represent the hospital in community relations and marketing activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Hospital President and/or Vice President of Financial Planning.

Qualifications

 

Education

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Health Administration (MHA) is required.

Experience

  • Minimum of seven (7) years experience of progressive leadership experience in hospital operations within a facility of comparable scope, complexity, and size.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
