SUPERVISOR, MEDICAL STAFF SERVICES
Position Summary
The Medical Staff Services Supervisor is responsible for leading the day to day operations of the Medical Staff Services department,
to include ensuring that initial credentialing and reappointment activities are completed by team members in accordance with
regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as the Orlando Health Bylaws, Policies and Procedures, Rules & Regulations.
SCHEDULE: Hybrid schedule to be determined after initial training period.
Essential Functions
• Interacts on a daily basis with medical staff leadership, department chairs, medical staff members, administration, and
executive staff. Assists with development and implementation of credentialing/privileging processes.
• Coordinates completion of preparation for Credentials Committee, Medical Executive Committee, and Quality Leadership
Committee meetings, and prepares medical staff recommendations for presentation to the Board of Directors. Identifies trends
in the Medical Staff Office and assists the Operations Manager in the development of performance improvement action plans.
• Is responsible for mentoring new team members and supervision of their daily activities, including completion of coaching plans.
Assigns tasks and projects to all team members and directs daily activities. Acts as troubleshooter in resolving departmental
issues.
• Interacts daily with the Credentialing Manager. Develops and implements processes and special projects assigned by
Credentialing Manager in the department.
• Develops, implements, and monitors quality assurance measures for team members to ensure complete and accurate
processing of initial and reappointment application.
• Assists Credentialing Manager in promoting the use of technological resources to automate credentialing processes and coaches
team members to ensure that they are maximizing use of technological tools in all processes.
• Evaluates processes in departmental Policies & Procedures and makes recommendations for changes. Serves as liaison and
representative on hospital committees and task forces, as assigned.
• Exhibits extensive attention to detail and requires attention to detail from all team members.
• Exhibits and promotes within the Medical Staff Services team excellent customer service to Medical Staff leaders, medical staff
members, medical staff applicants, hospital administration, and internal and external customers.
• Exhibits understanding of logistics required to support strategic changes with Operations Manager.
• Manages various personnel functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and disciplinary actions.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state
and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
• Assists physicians and others with all matters relative to Medical Staff membership and clinical privileges.
• Develops and maintains a working knowledge of statutes and laws as relates to credentialing/privileging.
• Maintains confidentiality.
• Assumes responsibility for professional growth and development.
Education/Training
Associate’s degree. A high school graduate or equivalent and two (2) years of directly related experience may substitute for the
Associate’s degree (in addition to the requirements listed in the Experience section).
Licensure/Certification
None.
Experience
• Two (2) years’ medical staff services experience, working with physicians, and/or coordination of high level committee
meetings.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet and significant proficiency in credentialing data system skills necessary to
maintain credentialing, meeting support activities, and reporting abilities relative to physician activity and statistics.
NOTE: Medical Staff Office experience highly preferred from a hospital, to include responsibilities for credentialing/privileging for Medical Staff/Allied Health Professional staff, to include both initial appointment and reappointment. Management of meeting agendas, minutes, packets.
General knowledge of the FPPE/OPPE process for credentialing providers. Primary source verification responsibilities. Credentialing database experience – MDStaff knowledge highly preferred.
