Position Summary

Heart South is seeking a Medication PAP Prior Authorization Coordinator I to support oncology and specialty clinics by completing medication prior authorizations for home medications prescribed by providers. This role plays a critical part in ensuring timely patient access to medications by coordinating with clinics, payers, and pharmacy benefit managers while navigating complex authorization and financial assistance processes.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate with clinic teams to obtain information needed to complete medication prior authorizations
  • Submit and manage prior authorizations through electronic portals with multiple Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs)
  • Enter, track, and maintain prior authorization documentation in Epic
  • Analyze patient and clinical information to respond accurately to payer authorization requirements
  • Contact insurance companies to resolve prior authorization issues and delays
  • Assist patients with alternative funding options when medications are not covered
  • Promote the use of copay cards and manufacturer assistance programs to reduce patient out-of-pocket costs
  • Apply knowledge of medical terminology in daily job functions
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and organizational information
  • Utilize strong critical thinking and analytical skills to independently resolve issues
  • Manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintain compliance with all organizational policies and procedures

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Four (4) years of experience in a healthcare-related field required
    • Pharmacy Technician certification may substitute for up to one (1) year
    • Associate’s degree may substitute for up to two (2) years
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in medication prior authorizations
