Position Summary
Heart South is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in an ambulatory care setting. This role supports clinical operations by assisting with patient preparation, examinations, procedures, and documentation while delivering exceptional patient-centered care.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Perform patient care activities under the direction of the physician or APP
- Gather patient data through interviews and observation
- Prepare patients and families for examinations and procedures
- Assist providers during exams and clinical procedures
- Administer approved medications and perform routine treatments per scope of practice
- Document patient information, treatments, procedures, and education in the electronic medical record
- Enter medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders as directed by providers
- Manage inbound and outbound phone calls using sound clinical judgment
- Coordinate scheduling for specialty testing and provider referrals
- Collaborate with clinical, administrative, and operations teams
- Support infection control, patient safety, and quality improvement initiatives
- Maintain compliance with all organizational, clinical, and regulatory standards
Qualifications
Education & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Successful completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program
OR - At least one (1) year of verifiable Medical Assistant experience in a patient care setting
Licensure & Certifications
- Current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification required
- Current Medical Assistant certification or registration from one of the following (or equivalent):
- CMA (AAMA)
- CCMA (NHA)
- RMA (AMT or equivalent)
- NCMA (NCCT)
- NRCMA/NRCAMA (NAHP)
- Other recognized MA certifications considered on a case-by-case basis
