Position Summary

 

Heart South is seeking a HIM Release of Information (ROI) Specialist I to support the secure and compliant release of patient health information. This is an entry-level role ideal for individuals interested in Health Information Management (HIM), medical records, or healthcare administration.

 

The ROI Specialist ensures patient privacy is protected by processing written and verbal requests for medical records in accordance with HIPAA, federal and state regulations, and organizational policies while providing excellent customer service to patients, providers, and external requestors.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Process written, electronic, faxed, and walk-in requests for release of medical records
  • Serve customers professionally in person and via phone through the customer service or call center
  • Sort, log, track, and verify ROI requests for compliance and accuracy
  • Identify record request types and route requests to the appropriate processing queues
  • Retrieve medical records from electronic systems, archives, legacy platforms, or paper files
  • Review records to ensure only the minimum necessary information is released
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, Florida state statutes, and organizational policies
  • Generate and follow up on correspondence related to record requests
  • Invoice requests and follow up to ensure proper payment when applicable
  • Monitor work queues and prioritize requests based on turnaround time requirements
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of patient and hospital information at all times
  • Meet productivity, quality, and customer service performance metrics

 

Qualifications

Education & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, evolving environment

  • No prior experience required – training provided
