Position Summary

A Brief Overview

Performs general patient care such as, hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and increased/constant observation in a basic role with the guidance and mentoring of the Registered Nurse

Responsibilities

What you will do

  • Provides routine treatments and interventions consistent with the educational level and skills learned in the academic environment and demonstrated competency through Baptist Health
  • Performs advanced skills after achievement of demonstrated competencies such as: nasogastric tube irrigation, suctioning, and removal; wound irrigation; complex dressing change without packing of wounds; maintenance of enteral tube feeding (Dobhoff, Nasogastric, and Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy)
  • Performs increase or continuous visual observation for Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients as assigned
  • Assists patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs
  • Maintains safety and security of patients, families, self, and other members of the healthcare team
  • Utilizes the Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist with change of staff or transfer of care as part of handoff for Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients
  • Assures patient privacy, rights, and confidentiality
  • Follows standard precautions. Adheres to Hand Hygiene and PPE procedures
  • Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the registered nurse (RN) and other members of the healthcare team
  • Participates in handoff report and purposeful hourly rounding on patients
  • Documents information according to Baptist Health specific policies and guidelines
  • Transports and assists patients through the admission and discharge process. Transports Baker Act, behavioral health and suicide risk patients to diagnostic testing and procedures
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment
  • Provides exceptional service and or care to all patients, families, customers, and team members
  • Transports and delivers items, equipment, blood products and medications (excluding substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility
  • Receives and processes incoming calls, patient calls and guest requests
  • May have limited access to areas storing medications
  • Provides exceptional service and or care to all patients, families, customers, and team members
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Baptist Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards
  • Maintains compliance with all Baptist Health policies and procedures
  • Completes all mandatory training
  • Participates in nursing Performance Improvement (PI) activities as assigned
  • Demonstrates awareness of legal issues, patient rights and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the population of patients served on his or her assigned unit
  • Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status
  • Interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs
  • Provides the care needed as described in Baptist Health’s policies and procedures
  • Consistently uses time and resources effectively and efficiently
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Nursing student currently enrolled in a nursing program at a college or university
  • Successful completion of fundamentals nursing course
  • Proof of continued enrollment in a pre-licensure, professional nursing program with no break in enrollment to exceed one year

  • Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification
